New! Voices of Cabrini is coming to DVD. Sneak preview |
| Cabrini Green, Chicago's best known public housing development was (and still is) being torn down as part of a nationwide plan to end high-rise public housing in the United States, and create new mixed-income communities. The city of Chicago promises Cabrini Green residents that they will be able to afford the new housing being built, but will this really be the case? As surrounding real estate prices skyrocket, Cabrini Green residents have increasing reason to suspect that they are being removed from their homes because the land has become too valuable. Voices of Cabrini highlights the many voices of the neighborhood: a father and son; a small business owner, and residents who speak out at community town meetings. This is a film about the loss of a community and the resilience of its people - some who resist the development, others who welcome it - all with poignant stories to tell. Filmed from 1995-1999, Voices of Cabrini is the story of how redevelopment is changing this neighborhood.
Residents from the 1158 N. Cleveland Cabrini Green building. It has now been torn down.
